Self-Employed Persons Class
Eligibility Requirements
Self-employed persons are a prescribed class of persons who may become permanent residents on the basis of their ability to become economically established in Canada and who are self-employed persons. To qualify, applicants must meet the minimal requirements for the class and obtain a minimum of 35 out of 100 points in a points system for this class.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Minimum two years of experience, during the period beginning five years before the
Date of application for a permanent resident visa in one of the specified economic activities:
- Cultural activities: two one-year periods of experience in self-employment in cultural activities, two one-year periods of experience in participation at a world-class level in cultural activities, or a combination of a one-year period of experience in self-employment in cultural activities and a one-year period of experience at a world-class level in cultural activities;
- Athletics: two one-year periods of experience in self-employment in athletics, two one-year periods of experience in participation at a world-class level in athletics, or a combination of a one-year period of experience in self_employment in athletics and a one-year period of experience at a world-class level in athletics; or purchase and management of a farm: two one-year periods of experience in the management of a farm.
INTENTION AND ABILITY
The self-employed applicant must demonstrate the intention and ability to establish a business that will, at a minimum, create employment for herself and that will make a significant contribution to the Canadian economy.
